Smart Home Prototype
2021 Services: Information Technology, Engineering, Sustainable Architecture
Project Overview
Supported by a grant from DKRS, the “Smart Home Prototype” project was an R&D initiative to build a fully functional model home that showcases the future of sustainable living. The core objective was to create a dwelling that is intelligent, responsive, and highly energy-efficient.
Key Features
Spectra’s multidisciplinary team collaborated to integrate several advanced systems:
- Centralized Control System: A custom-built software platform allows users to control lighting, climate, security, and appliances from a single interface.
- Energy Monitoring & Optimization: Real-time flux sensors and weather data feed into an AI algorithm that optimizes energy consumption, predicting usage patterns and adjusting systems proactively.
- Passive Design Integration: The prototype was built on Passivhaus principles, with superior insulation, airtightness, and a heat recovery ventilation (HRV) system, all controlled and monitored by our IT systems.
- Cybersecurity Measures: The entire network was secured with robust penetration testing and ethical hacking protocols to ensure resident data and home functions are protected from external threats.
This prototype serves as a powerful educational tool and a proof-of-concept for scalable, sustainable housing solutions.
